Soft River Studio

Wheel-thrown stoneware, made one batch at a time in a boathouse that still smells faintly of creosote when it rains.

The glazes are mixed here from ash, local clay and whatever the last firing taught me, which means the colours drift between batches; that drift is the reason to make things by hand at all, so I have stopped treating it as a fault to be corrected.

current work — tumblers, lidded jars, a stubborn series of teapots

The kiln runs roughly every six weeks. Finished pieces go first to people on the list, then to the two shops that stock me, then to the open studio weekends in spring and late autumn. The list is built at those weekends; there is no other way onto it.
